In a world where political service often faces the challenges of power, ambition, and moral compromise, Following Christ in the Public Square offers a spiritual guide for those in public office. This book combines the timeless teachings of Thomas à Kempis' The Imitation of Christ with practical insights for politicians and public servants, offering a roadmap for leading with integrity, humility, and a heart rooted in faith.

Whether you are a seasoned politician or someone who feels called to public service, may this book provide inspiration for aligning faith with leadership and offer a vision of governance based on love, truth, and devotion to God.

BOOKS IN THE SERIES

This book is an invaluable guide to politicians seeking a vibrant interior life. Alex takes as his starting point "The

Imitation of Christ" then draws from the rich corpus of Catholic tradition to offer his own reflections as a politician, and presents real-life examples and profiles of other politicians from across the world who have walked the talk. This is a must-read for those, especially Christians, who are serving or aspiring to serve in public office today.

This extraordinarily rich work of reflection is the guide that I have been looking for all those many years working with Catholic and other Christian politicians from around the world. The title clearly points to what is most important when Christians who are politicians take seriously their calling to follow Christ in the public square: time for prayer and reflection, only to be found in silence and solitude.

BIO

Sketch of Alex Yam

Born and raised in Singapore, he began his career at the National University of Singapore before spending a decade in the trade unions prior to entering politics. He is a convert to the Catholic faith and his journey into the Church has profoundly shaped both his personal convictions and public life.

Having contemplated a vocation before entering politics, he continues to draw strength from Scripture, Church teaching, and the writings of the saints to guide his work and life. He has a deep devotion to the Mother of God,

inspired by his encounters with the Servants of Mary, and is also a member of the Order of Malta.

Alex is married to Jocelyn whose photos grace the books, and they are parents to four children. He credits his family - especially his children, affectionately known as the “Yamlets” - for constantly reminding him of what truly matters: love, truth, and the quiet joy that comes from faithful perseverance.
